the point of linux is that it's actually useful without a gui.. I like fluxbox

The best GUI for Linux is called "rm". You can see it by logging on as root and typing:rm -rf *

hahai've been using linux for around 8 years now, just not up to date on GUI shit, because most of my boxes stay in console. i just wanted to utilize my main machine (3ghz 2gb ram gf6800gt, etc) and have my GUI slick

with that kind of hardware, linux is a complete waste.

I use WindowMaker. I don't know that it comes with any distributions anymore, but I'm using FC4 and yum installing it was easy enough. It's very minimalist. I like it... I'm using it right now!

there was no point in posting that screenshot

i sincerely hope no one takes smoothcrim as an authority on the usefulness of linux... i mean, you've used it as a desktop for how long? and how much of either system you have it on did you actually set up yourself? sorry to get on you about this publically, but hey, you put yourself out there.(and yeah, someday i'll get your wireless and accelerated X working, but when you're working hardware from shitty companies that won't release thier specs or decently versatile drivers, you can't expect a whole lot...not to mention that i haven't had much time with it, and you should be figuring this shit out yourself - otherwise the whole point is lost, and you'll just spout that kinda shit even more)[Edited on July 30, 2005 at 4:13 PM. I'm tryin to give linux a chance here, since it appears to have changed a lot since 2.3 when I last used it. It's a lot better but I wouldn't say it's all that great for a regular desktop os. It's gotten the job done the past few weeks I've been without a functioning bios chip in my desktop, but yeah, thats another debate. My point was all that nice hardware was obviously bought with gaming in mind, why bother with a hack job like cedega when you could just play the games the way they were meant to be in windows and be able to play all of them... well. Sure one or 2 more games may run better in cedega but the vast majority don't.

lets let bous comment on the topic of gaming...before you assume so much about it, but yeah, we already talked about it over aim anywayi know him well enough to assume he knows what he's doing[Edited on July 30, 2005 at 4:23 PM. Reason : dar]
