i think jeep produced more than 1 model in 1998.

If it's like my cherokee, I had to take the entire dash off to put in mine.

Take off the piece right behind the windshield. It is just clipped in place. Grab it and pull...It will pop right off, one clip at a time. It runs the whole width of the Jeep. There are two screws on top of that center piece that hold it down. Now that you popped that piece behind the windshield trim off you will be able to see them....Remove those.Take the ashtray out...There is one screw down there. Remove it.Start pulling the center piece off. It just has some clips holding it on. Start at the bottom and work your way up getting the clips to pop off.The radio has a security wire bolted to the back of it that is a pain in the ass. Unscrew the security wire up by the windshield to make it loose. Get a little socket wrench and unscrew the wire from the back of the radio.Put the new one in and you're done.[Edited on July 28, 2005 at 11:30 PM. Reason : d]

who would steal a stock radio anyway? that security wire is extra weight, take it off and you could gain 40 horsepower

Plenty of people would steal them...I sold my stock radio on eBay for ~$150 after shipping & handling. That more than covered the cost of the Sony I put in there.
