with xp, you can boot from the cd and it'll take you right through it. Pretty simple directions. Google it.

why google?just stick in your windows disk, rebootyou'll probably see 'press any key to boot from cd' (press a key)follow instructions as givenfairly simple, but takes forever to format...

If your computer came with a System Recovery CD, just put it in the drive and restart your computer. Good as new.

You should probably list "I have this problem, should I reformat???" first, but Yeah, the recovery CD would be the way to go....

with XP you can't just do format c: XP is smart enough to realize that it doesn't want to delete itself, and one of the only ways you can do it is with a recovery disk or an entire new OS

Another possibility is to remove the casing of the hard drive and wipe it a few times with some fine sand paper

ooo long long way ,,,,make a win98 boot disk , make sure you have smartdrv with it,,, theres several programs available on the net, that will create all you need onto just one floppy disk. boot from your new boot disk , use Fdisk utilities to delete and create new partitions on the hard drive then do your lil c: format then put in your win xp cd navigate in dos to e:/i386/winnt.exe, and run that it'll start the install,, and theres deff guides for doing it this way on the net, but if you have a new computer that doesnt mind booting from a cd then do that
