No asterisks for the haters out thereGavin Smith is a really old one on PackPride but the newest 2006 recruit is:Josh CzajkowskiKWest Springfield HS, Springfield, VA1 StarWith a name that ends in "kowski", he's gotta have a helluva leg and a helluva drinking habit [/stereotype]
7/19/2005 12:37:49 PM
Alright, got the kicker out the way. wtg Chuck. Now how about QB? Who looks to be the most promising?
7/19/2005 12:42:43 PM
I hope they are not sticking with Jay... granted he may be better, but that season last year was downright frightening!
7/19/2005 1:04:42 PM
Class of 2022 - Halle Rivers - First female starting quarterback in NCAA DI history
7/19/2005 1:08:22 PM
^^2006 (& Jay is a senior which means he won't be around, barring season ending injury)
7/19/2005 1:34:34 PM
If a kicker is only 1 star, I don't see all the hoopla. Unless his stock is bound to rise or something, he's not better than Deraney.
7/19/2005 1:55:58 PM
P. Rivers was a 3 star tight end when originally recruited.don't get too caught up in starseven more recent, manny lawson was a ONE star TE recruit. [Edited on July 19, 2005 at 2:36 PM. Reason : a]
7/19/2005 2:33:59 PM
Yeah, but possition players have a lot more chances for intangibles and smart play to make a difference than a kicker or punter where it basically just comes down to accuracy and distance.
7/19/2005 2:39:18 PM
You listed stars for players who obviously did not come to play that position.I don't expect a 1 star kicker to be our star HB anytime soon. I would like to say that these scouts could make an accurate rating of a kicker's abilities. Is he being recruited as a 1 star kicker to become our 5 star waterboy?
7/19/2005 2:39:52 PM
my point is, abilities are not always assessed correctly. TA was a three star runningback and made an impact right away.
7/19/2005 2:42:08 PM
Looking back on that, they were right in the fact that he was a 3 star RB. He showed some signs of greatness, but never met to his potential.
7/19/2005 2:44:57 PM
i dont think the "star givers" have evaluated this kid yet. At camp here he was 19-20 and kicked a 55 yarder i believe. He has obviously impressed our coaches enough, and has been kicking off the ground for 2 years, something most kickers don't try til college.
7/19/2005 2:55:53 PM
^ I figure that to be the most logical conclusion...he just hasn't really been picked up on radar yet. I'm not really questioning it (although it may seem like I am). I trust in Chuck and in Chuck's recruiting team.
7/19/2005 2:59:06 PM
7/19/2005 3:07:08 PM
Any time you see a 1* rating, that means the player has not been evaluated yet. As soon as the important web-page recruiting nerds get video or more stats on a player, he will be evaluated and rated between 2* and 5*. And there's still the possibility of picking up another kicker - Nathan Franklin. I wouldn't mind getting 2 of them. Deraney is pretty much out on his own this year, and I would like to have 2 solid kickers in place for the next 4 years. Separation of duties leads to much better kicking.
7/19/2005 4:16:33 PM
I wouldn't want to waste any extra scholarships to be pickin up some stinkin' kicker. Well, that's only partially true...if there are extras left, go ahead and grab a kicker. I just don't want to miss out on a better recruit if we picked up two kickers and didn't have enough scholarships to nab another player.
7/19/2005 4:40:38 PM
after how many times we've been screwed by kicking in years past, I'd give another scholly to nathan franklin(whom im pretty sure we're still pursuing)
7/19/2005 4:44:00 PM
star ratings will fluctuate in the coming weeks/months, especially with a kicker who will probably be last on the priority to be evaluated
7/19/2005 4:46:18 PM
Washington Post points to his father being the men's soccer team coach at his high schoolFound this from VirginiaPreps.com

looks like a potential drunk to me

7/20/2005 8:48:30 AM
chuck is still recruiting franklin.....everyone settle
7/20/2005 9:10:19 AM
^^He doesn't want Derany doing everything. That was why he brought in Lewis last year. Chuck can't help it though if the kid sucks balls.
7/20/2005 9:13:26 AM
^ A torn leg muscle isn't exactly "sucking balls"...combine that with a negative attitude and a severe lacking of competitive spirit and we should be thankful he transfered out of here
7/20/2005 9:26:10 AM
exactly, he doesn't want one kicker doing everything, which is why we're still going to go after nathan franklin. hopefully we can keep him away from UT or southern cal
7/20/2005 9:30:17 AM
the TE Dane Guthrie from UF was here this past weekend, he was teammates with bobby washington and dixon was his old TE coach, that has to help.and we are definitely still on franklin, i hear he may be here today to unofficially visit with the coaches
7/21/2005 11:05:36 AM
don't forget me. I got recruited as a walk on, but I may say fuck those bastids.
7/22/2005 4:06:17 AM
Franklin, the other kicker was in yesterday. We told him we still want him and that we're taking two kickers this year, he says he'll probably make a decision in the next few days.If I had to guess, I think we get our second kicker in a week soon.
7/22/2005 9:34:52 AM
Jamar Chaney, the LB who committed to UGA but got redflagged and denied admission and was looking at transferring to NCSU, was also denied admission to State. So there's no possibility of getting him. Dang.Still have an okay shot with TE Guthrie, though. From last year's recruiting class, OL Doug Palmer didn't qualify and has switched over to ECU, and it doesn't look good for Chad Green. Everyone else is good to go.
7/22/2005 11:39:55 AM
yeah, green is out too. probably will end up at ecu as well. For a school who vowed not to just take the academic disqualifications from bigger schools, ecu seems to be benefiting from it pretty well. Can't blame them though.
7/22/2005 11:46:17 AM
hahhaa, Chad Green has to have the IQ of dirt.....the kid has been trying to get in for like 4 years...
7/22/2005 4:01:40 PM
Looks like Guthrie (transfer TE from UF) is heading to ASU. dang.
7/24/2005 3:28:05 PM
What are our chances on Wardlow?
7/24/2005 10:31:37 PM
Nathan Franklin has committed to State. Top kicker in the state and one of the best in the nation. He's from the same school as Connor Barth, and lots of locals around there are saying Franklin is better than Barth was at that stage in high school.^ For Wardlow, I think we'd get him if we offered. I believe we don't want to offer him as a QB and he's not fast enough to offer at CB.... But I say he's a damn good athlete and we should just sign him up and find a place for him later.
7/26/2005 9:06:08 PM
^good to hear, 2/3 kickers thus far int he 2006 classwaiting on crezdon butler to announce thursday, most seem to think he will be going with clemson, but heres to hoping
7/26/2005 9:11:23 PM
The video of Crezdon on scout.com says that he's committing to be a CB who can play really early in the nickel package.I have read that we are recruiting him as a WR. If that's the case, then it pretty much guarantees he's going to Clemson
7/26/2005 9:13:03 PM
yeah, same thing i heardnever knew the ncsu staff to stick someone to a position so hard, does not sound like our staff's typical strategy. we are usually on the other side of these transactions (another school wants a guy for a specific position, and we give him a chance at what he wants)
7/26/2005 9:15:18 PM
talked to josh adams tonight. things look good for him if we can just convince him that he could be our next tramain hall.i think lamarcus bond and owen spencer are silent verbals
7/26/2005 11:29:37 PM
^good to hearwhere are you getting the silent verbal info from?
7/27/2005 8:27:54 PM
should hear from Crezdon today!
7/28/2005 9:33:43 AM
i hope we get good news from butler today, but im not holding my breath.as far as silent verbals go(disclaimer: i don't take much stock in silent verbal talk), i've heard we have 3 silents right now, one from NC, one from SC, and one from FL. TIFWIW.
7/28/2005 9:50:34 AM
looks like butler's announcement may be pushed back up to a week. I'm not sure what that means, maybe someone has convinced him to wait...
7/28/2005 11:00:41 AM
^where did you read that at?is this good or bad for us??? seems like he was going the way of clemson so it can't be bad from our point of view
7/28/2005 11:04:50 AM
as long as he doesn't take this extra weekend to visit unc, it's good for us.
7/28/2005 11:35:48 AM
Remember, his teammate Johnny White committed to UNC, but as long as he's not taking a visit there, this should be a good sign for us.
7/28/2005 12:15:57 PM
^truebump
7/28/2005 2:50:55 PM
Butler has said from the start a few things that have stayed consistant:1. He wants to be near Home....although we are in state, Clemson is closer2. He wants to be an Engineer....That sort of eliminates UNC but now that his teammate commited, the holes could get back in it.other things I've picked up from him...he likes a big city (advantage NCSU), he was a big time clemson lean but we said we would give him a shot on the Offensive side of the ball and that brought us about even with Clemson.I've been hearing it is a 2 horse race between the Pack and Tigers...my $$$ has been on Clemson the whole time but I think him waiting is a good sign for NCSU and UNC...hopefully Chuck and staff got on him and have his attention.
7/28/2005 3:09:29 PM
hopefully the big city atmosphere is something that he is interested inb/c i have been to clemson a few times in the last two years and that fucking place is in the middle of fucking nowhereone street with 6-7 bars on it and a few shitty strip malls is about it, i think they put a mellow mushroom in a worn down house, and a famous bar there is called ESSO and is actually in an old exxon stationraleigh isn't DC, or Atlanta, but damn it has to be better than that
7/28/2005 3:37:55 PM
Deunta Williams to UNC. Damn. No surprise there, but I wouldn't have minded seeing one.
