Tuition & fees was about $860 when I started in the Fall of '96. I took 2+ years off from school and I remember it being close to $2000 when I was finishing up.That's like a 130% increase in 6 years. I alwasy wondered if tuition was like $20 in the 60's (given that rate of increase).I'd be interested in knowing what tuition & fees are now and what they have been over the years.

If you keep an eye on technicianonline.com they'll most likely be having a story about it soon. It seems every 3 months they'd have an article.

lots of people complain about the raise in tuition over the past few years, but if you compare nc state to other comperable schools, you will see that we are very low on the expense ladder.my sister goes to univ of South Carolina, and her tuition is more expensive then mine was.my mom went back to school at a small, local offshoot of USC in spartanburg, and even her tuition was almost $1000 more then mine per semester.

Tuition in NC is very reasonable after hearing what they pay here in MA.

^^yeah it is ridiculous how cheap the in state tuition is here....even with the recent drastic increase if you compare it to Penn State or Virginia Tech you would be amazed!

My point wasn't to complain about how expensive it is. I just wanted to see the growth pattern.$860 in '96to$2160 in '05seems like a significant percentage jump. It is certainly more than what I would expect it to be from say '86 to '95.
7/18/2005 9:50:22 AM
I think that at that growth rate tuition would have been $340 in '86 and $135 in '76. Maybe that is pretty close to the actuals.
7/18/2005 9:54:17 AM
yeah it was a HUGE increase from a percentage standpoint.I started in 2000 and it was approximately $1300 when I finished in 2002 it was $1900. I was like wtf!

childs play, i had to pay out of state tuition

Have they built any new public universities in the last two decades in NC? It seems like college is getting harder to get into and the costs are increasing rapidly.[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 10:57 AM. Reason : s]

Supply and demand. On a side note:You can expect to see a lot more internet based courses in the future. The net courses let them put a lot more students through the motions without having to worry about not having enough space to house all the sections that would otherwise be necessary.I have never taken a decent online course btw.

yeah man i tried, problem is i came in as a transfer nd only had 2 years left... by the time it would have gone through i would have been out... but i know they did offer a prorate that if you get in state tuition they would refund such and such of the difference for the year before....another problem was i went back home during the summer to live and work even though my license was NC i filed taxes in NY
