Old school, so most of you have probably graduated and are out in the workplace I finished school in May and, even after applying to nearly 30 positions in and around the DC area, I'm still jobless. I'm headed to a temp agency tomorrow, so we'll see whats up there.SO, for the first relatively normal thread here, i'm wondering how long it took for you to find a job after you graduated? Did you stay there long? did you like it?
7/18/2005 2:03:05 AM
i've been graduated for 2 years, and have yet to find a job. unless grad school counts
7/18/2005 2:04:16 AM
0 daysmy advice to people about to graduate is to start looking a semester (or more) in advance, especially with the current job market
7/18/2005 2:07:28 AM
if i keep getting healthy like i've been doing, i might just go for a commissioning. dunno why. feel like i'm being called to it.one more year and i'll be working on an MPA and a JD... so i just need something to pay the bills y'know.
7/18/2005 2:29:59 AM
I finish school in December... I've landed 3 jobs so far but nobody will fucking hire me NOW because I'm not out yet. Nobody wants to bend their precious little schedules.
7/18/2005 6:20:39 AM
graduated may 14interviewed for the job on june 26 (or so)started july 1st, i actually got another job offer on that day as well
7/18/2005 6:57:44 AM
I took me 7 months after I graduated in December 2003. It sucked because right before i got my job I was about to go dead broke and had decided to move back home with the parents for awhile until i could rectify my situation. I still work with my first real job out of college and I love it.I interned with Progress Energy for two summers before getting this job.I'm kinda of interested in how many people co-oped or interned before getting thier job.
7/18/2005 8:14:34 AM
6 months
7/18/2005 8:19:40 AM
i didn't start looking for a job for at least 3 months after i graduated. needed some time to clear my head. then i found one in 2 months after i started looking. got a couple of offers. my advice: apply to places out of the area (if you are willing to move). employers like to see that you have some flexibility.
7/18/2005 8:27:18 AM
oh & i never interned or co-oped. thought about it though. had a part-time job all through school. i think the internship/co-op would have been better for experience in my field. definitely recommended.
7/18/2005 8:29:18 AM
I graduated in May and found a job a week before graduation. A position at my internship opened up. Unfortunately, it's a short-term contract, so come September there is NO TELLING just what I could be doing. We'll see what happens.A temp job is good just out of school-- it gives you a lot of flexibility.

Littleton Skat-ThruAre there even jobs at Lakeland? That entire region of the state has a terrible unemployment problem. Should be interesting when "Dollywood: Ro-Rap" opens.
7/18/2005 8:39:54 AM
My school internship became full time when I graduated from school. Back in February, I changed to this position I have now. So I have pretty much been working since I graduated.
7/18/2005 9:30:07 AM
2 months, which is about 2 months longer than I was expecting...
7/18/2005 9:34:46 AM

7/18/2005 10:12:37 AM

7/18/2005 10:15:02 AM

7/18/2005 10:16:10 AM
I primarily waited tables right after I finished for 3 months and did nothing but party it was awesome!! Then I got my first real job and haven't really stopped partying..only now I just have to wake up a bit earlier [Edited on July 18, 2005 at 10:23 AM. Reason : a]

i graduated may 04.i started looking for a job mid-february of 04 and i would recommend starting to look earlier. i had some people in my classes that already had job offers by december of 03 because they started early, so they had a very relaxing final semester.the week before i graduated, i had 2 job offers. i took one, and requested not to start until July, so I could have 1.5 months to relax.i just had my one year anniversery, and I am still very happy here,[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 10:25 AM. 7/18/2005 10:24:54 AM
yeah I had several job offers when I graduated b/c I started at the beginning of the semester....none of them were in Raleigh though so I waited out until I found something in Raleigh
7/18/2005 10:26:44 AM
i got offered a job that was good enough to make me leave earlystill don't have a degree, but i will eventually
7/18/2005 10:28:30 AM
I graduated in 2002, it took about 5 months for me to find a job. It was as a geneticist for a pharmacogeneticist in rtp. I stayed there for over 2 years.
7/18/2005 10:36:52 AM
graduated december 2004 - had job offer in july of 2004 - accepted in august of 2004 - talk about senioritis
7/18/2005 10:42:41 AM
i had a job the day i graduated. i worked at packbackers for 3 years while i was in school. when i graduated i did the company's manager trainee program and a year later i've gotten 2 promotions and will prolly get another in less than a year. laid back, easy job, college environment, potential for bonus up to 1.5x salary, i love it
7/18/2005 10:58:04 AM
graduated this past december and had a job in april. it is not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life but its a start in the lab field. I work at Labcorp by the way.

7/18/2005 11:59:38 AM
^^^ Yeah I work in validation as well. It will be a year soon. I really don't like it, but I'm thankful I have a job.[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 12:11 PM. Reason : ed]
7/18/2005 12:10:43 PM
i should start looking
7/18/2005 1:35:18 PM
Finished school in August 2003, but I had a full-time job that started on July 14th 2003. Now that I've been employed for 2 years, I am on my second full-time engineering job at an engineering company in Greenville, NC.
7/18/2005 1:36:40 PM
Took Jason a year to get this 'real' job. I just talked to my cousin in NY and she graduated last spring and probably won't get a job until next year (teaching). And of course I'm not out yet so I couldn't tell ya I think if you're single it's definitely something you have to be willing to move for. Jason's company is national so if I get a job offer elsewhere, he has a possibility of being able to transfer. If you have done any video editing, you could apply to the same job =P
7/18/2005 1:39:51 PM
took me 48 hours to submit a resume, get a callback, have an interview, and recieve an offer
7/18/2005 1:41:32 PM
yeah, you really limit yourself when you try to stay in one area. my only real requirement was that i wanted to stay on the east coast. i ended moving 4-5 hours away from raleigh, and i have no regrets.i miss my old friends, but ive made new ones, and i live in a bigger city, so theres way more to do around here.
7/18/2005 1:42:07 PM
I had a job right out of graduation, headed straight to the campaign trail
7/18/2005 1:42:11 PM
oh fuck getting a job i just kept going to school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at least its grad school though.
7/18/2005 1:52:33 PM
I had a job immediately after graduating because I was working part-time for my current engineering firm while going to school. I highly recommend doing that because lots of companies hire out of their intern (office scrub) workpool.
7/18/2005 3:03:21 PM
started the day after my last final exam, its a shitty job though. I wish I would have started looking earlier to find something better.
7/18/2005 5:08:01 PM
I started working at the place I am now part-time the summer before I graduated and started full-time a couple months after I graduated in December. However, my job ends in December 2006.
7/18/2005 5:08:26 PM
-6 months. Graduated in May 05 had the offer in December 04.Thank you co-op
7/18/2005 5:42:24 PM
I graduated in December and had a job as a writer at a community paper on Jan. 9. Right at six months later, I'm being offered a job as the full-time sports writer at a fairly large daily with a clear path for being the sports editor within a year or two at most. N.C. State's English department surprised me.
7/18/2005 5:51:43 PM
