I dabbled in Sim2 awhile but my machine was weak, and I played Civ II a lot. I am getting the hankering to fuck around with them again.

Sim City 4
7/10/2005 3:00:26 PM
civ III
7/10/2005 4:58:10 PM
Civ III and I dabbled in SimCity 300 for a while, but still prefer 2000.I also had a huge city on the SNES version, emulated.
7/10/2005 5:32:34 PM
SimCity 4 + Rush Hour expansion..no seriously, you need this one
7/12/2005 3:51:48 AM
Civ III + xpacks
7/12/2005 11:15:23 AM
civ 2 was the greatest and only
7/12/2005 11:16:47 AM
I got the feeling that SimCity 4 was a big big miss with a lot of people... no one seemed to be interested... I bought and played it a bunch, but there just didn't seem to be too much hoopla about it.
7/12/2005 12:23:48 PM
Any talk on the game scene about new ones coming out? I really like those build em type games, though I was never a Coaster Tycoon or Sim Life (or whatever it was) fan.
7/12/2005 12:30:18 PM
SimCity 4 was fun for a bit, but I found 2 big faults with it - too much to deal with and small fixes that could have made the game so much better. I like complex games, but it had too much going on at times. The one small fix that would have really helped the game was with roads. Building them on hills was a major pain in the ass.Either way, I'd still like to get ahold of one of these games again. They are good fun. Might have to get an SNES emulator here at work to play 2k.
7/12/2005 12:53:49 PM
I loved sim city for the SNES.I'm getting it off of ebay.
7/12/2005 1:14:26 PM
Sim City for the SNES was definitely the best. The thing I don't like about the new ones is that they're so freaking complicated. I could never understand why certain neighborhoods always turned to the ghetto. So I got pissed and sent in the aliens.
7/12/2005 1:35:14 PM
try StarCraft!
7/13/2005 2:26:07 AM
BTTT, anybody seen screenshots for Civilization 4? That shit is 3D and got bumped from a Novemeber release to October now!
9/11/2005 7:43:05 AM
Sim City 4 is awesome. I'm battling addiction with it now.
9/11/2005 1:36:57 PM
Oh dagCiv 4 might be that game that gets me to actually play a game again.
9/11/2005 10:06:51 PM
SimAnt what what
9/12/2005 11:11:33 AM
Remember SimCopter? For some reason, I really liked that game, even though it just seemed incredibly cheaply done.
9/12/2005 12:30:46 PM
^ that was the one that got a bunch of programmers fired because there was an easter egg where you ended up seeing a bunch of characters representing programmers giving eachother a bath and in sexual positions right?
9/12/2005 12:55:17 PM
So I just read up a little on some changes that are going into Civ 4, and I have decided I will be getting this one. I particularly like that the emphasis isn't on crazy expansion and that the game can be played with fewer cities. My budget 6200TC isn't going to get the job done huh?[Edited on September 12, 2005 at 1:03 PM. 9/12/2005 1:02:33 PM
^ Probably. The CIV series was never particularly graphics intensive.
9/12/2005 1:22:22 PM
9/12/2005 2:24:53 PM
SimAnt was the shit.SimEarth and SimLife, kind of boring.Didn't like SimCopter that much.[Edited on September 12, 2005 at 2:52 PM. Reason : anyone ever play SimHealth?]
9/12/2005 2:51:52 PM
9/12/2005 3:17:29 PM
meh, I liked simlife for a bit. anyone try sim tower? how about sim isle? that last one was kind of neat, but half the mechanics didn't make sense.[Edited on September 12, 2005 at 3:35 PM. Reason : ]
9/12/2005 3:34:20 PM
I remember my sister got SimFarm
9/12/2005 3:42:46 PM
I got pretty far along with a Sim Tower back in the day... I have the CD around here somewhere. Sim Copter too, I think.
9/12/2005 5:42:41 PM
simant pwns all
9/12/2005 6:28:58 PM
Civ 4 is coming out soon.
9/12/2005 7:46:18 PM
i have the orig sim tower on 3 3.5 floppies. i dont think many games were on CD's back then
9/12/2005 7:51:14 PM
I still have Simtower and mine is on a CD. I played the shit outta this one back in the day. Wouldn't mind a 3D version of this one coming back out.SimFarm was on 2 disks. I absolutely loved that game.SimEarth was alright but I played it a few years after it had been out so its graphics were lacking compared to the other Sim games (I got it around the same time I had SimFarm and Simcity 2000). I also got Civilization later on so its graphics were pretty bad. I wish I had caught both of those when they were first released to play them in all their original glory.I completely missed out on Simant. That was the one I really wanted but never seemed to get. I played the shit outta Simcity, 2k (+ the Urban Renewal Kit), 3k, and working on 4 now. Also have every Civilization and all the expansions for all of them. I'm a suck for Sid Meier's work.I still miss the semi-retro look that the manuals for SimFarm and the old Simcity's had. That were so nice looking.
9/12/2005 10:01:58 PM
i played the hell out of civ IIand a good bit of sim city 3000civ II kicked ass
9/12/2005 10:14:10 PM
on simFarm i would block sheep(or horses i forgot) in the barns with hay, and they would grow without eating any of the food. then sell them to make a killer profit
9/13/2005 12:23:24 AM
Teh winz.Anybody else play Colonization? It came between Civ I & Civ II.[Edited on September 13, 2005 at 12:28 AM. Reason : ]
9/13/2005 12:28:09 AM
sim city 2000 was the last one i played, although i did download sim tower last year, and got a 5 star hotel i might add.i'm in the mood for simAnt again, its been like 8 years
9/13/2005 12:46:16 AM
^^I never got into Colonization. As long as we're on Sid Meier's other games, though, the original Pirates! was wicked.
9/13/2005 7:37:34 AM
I got a used copy of SimCity4 recently and have been playing it quite a bit. It's fun when you haven't messed with it in a while. I have a couple really nice cities going with the plan to connect them through suburbs eventually.
9/13/2005 10:04:06 AM
The problem with SimCity 4 I always ran into was intense traffic issues no matter how far in advance I planed my commuters network. I found a few programs that helped the simulators "brain" figure out better avenues to and from work rather than the shortest, but they only helped a little.
9/14/2005 3:30:33 AM
What are the programs you are talking about? I get traffic problems here and there. The city I'm working on now I did a lot of planning and there aren't that many problems. I built a highway that makes somewhat of a 90 degree angle around the city and put avenues everywhere.Another problem I've run into is teachers striking even after their funding is maxxed out. I tried adding another school and it didn't help, so I just ignore it now. Also my environment meter is as low as it can be for some reason. I placed the industrial zones on one side of the highway and the residential far away on the other, with commercial in between. There aren't a lot of houses near the highway either. I have a water treatment plant, natural gas plants instead of coal, and a lot of windmills to limit how many gas plants I need. I have a rail line with passenger stations and an assload of bus stops to help limit traffic. Then I initiated every environmental act I could and it's still as low as possible...
9/14/2005 9:30:18 AM
do you have alot of parks, trees, etc?when I played sim city 2000 I would forrest out anything on the map that I wasnt using and it helped pollution alot.
9/14/2005 11:12:30 AM
Yeah any area that I can't zone I forest heavily. I put a ton of parks in the downtown area and a lot of small ones in the low density residential areas.Honestly it's not a big deal because no one complains. I never get any messages about how the environment is bad, and on the pollution map it doesn't seem bad, so I just ignore it.
9/14/2005 11:25:31 AM
Civ 4 coming out soon.Or rather Civ 3.1.
9/14/2005 11:41:08 AM
Read up on the game before you try to make funnies because that one doesn't really fit.
9/14/2005 4:05:43 PM
eh, just move your industrial into a nearby city.I think the stuff I found was at http://www.simtropolis.comIt was a while back though.
9/14/2005 11:24:55 PM
Ok Chance.Enlighten me as to what feature Civ IV has that isn't an expansion or evolution at what was included in Civ III which itself had very few features above Alpha Centauri.
9/15/2005 4:19:58 PM
The inability to be able to shift production from one wonder to another in one turn is alone enough that calling it a .1 version is retarded.Go educate yourself.[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 4:22 PM. Reason : x]
9/15/2005 4:21:56 PM
If thats the best you can do, my point stands.
9/15/2005 4:24:25 PM
9/15/2005 4:27:42 PM
Ah man, alpha centauri! I loved that game, god I'd so much rather see an alpha centauri II than a civ IV right now...
9/15/2005 4:50:34 PM
Hey man you're the only one getting angsty in here and throwing out curses and personal insults. All I asked was for you to substantiate how Civ 4 broke new ground gameplay wise and all you listed was feature change. They're even regressing and adding back Wonder videos which was one of the cooler interface features of Civ 2(coolest being that it ran in windows native).[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 4:59 PM. Reason : Alpha Centauri was a great game.]
