Did I just blow your mind? Think about that shit. Why?

I concur. All the advantages of being a magician without being a pussy.

fighers are more versatile and have no ties to faith or morals.
7/4/2005 4:54:35 PM
Fighters are more versatile? Why, because they can take a few bonus Feats? A paladin very quickly becomes immune to fear and all diseases. He can cast divine spells. He gets a free super mount. They even get the same weapon and armor proficiencies as fighters. I mean...what's the point?
7/4/2005 4:58:09 PM
fighters are far more versatile. they can use more weapons, have more combat options, have their own ways of becoming immune to fear and status ailments and can use the element of suprise.its all a tradeoff. paladins arent as efficient a killer, but they make everyone around them better, and get a free normal mount, not super. [Edited on July 4, 2005 at 5:05 PM. Reason : paladins cant use guns ]
7/4/2005 5:00:57 PM
If you want to anything other than Lawful Good, there's no choice involved. And fighters get weapon specialization. +2 damage is nice. So are the feats. Straight one on one a fighter should beat a paladin more often than not.

Warriors have a ranged attack. Unless it's undead you're kinda screwed on range as a pally. Plus, the amount of time it takes to kill something with a pally makes it feel more like work than fun to me. But the ability to heal yourself during or after a fight cuts down on downtime, so maybe it balances itself out.

this is the goddamn dorkiest, dweebiest, nerdiest thread I have ever seen... why don't you dipshits go have a circle jerk in you special gaming, flaming floor seats...[Edited on July 4, 2005 at 9:00 PM. Reason : .]

7/4/2005 9:09:53 PM
Paladins can use bows and other ranged weapons just like a fighter.
7/4/2005 9:21:17 PM
Depends on what game/type of paladin you are. Like in Baldur's Gate II you can't if you are a certain kit of a paladin. But in most games I see paladins using ranged stuff
7/4/2005 9:38:54 PM
i started a paladin on a pvp server
7/4/2005 9:42:00 PM
well in the only game that matters right nowpaladins use no ranged weapons

Because of a lack of ranged skills, pallies are very easily kited by good hunters. However, multiple paladins in groups can be a serious threat thanks to their no mana cost heals. This makes them one of the most survivable classes, and even more so in groups. Then again its been my experience that most pallies in groups rarely do more than shield/consecrate/die.They are a group support class that is played primarily by those who would rather solo.
7/4/2005 10:32:08 PM
D&D GUY: I live in a world of cold steel, and dungeons, and mighty foes ...COP 1: OH, OH, I live in a world of dungeons too, the dungeon we're taking you to is called the Reno county jail! How's that dungeon, you're gonna like that dungeon!COP 2: Yeah, yeah, there's a dragon there named Nick the Grip, and he's been feeling people up in their sleep all week.

FroshKillerYou better not be sporting a WoW account and not have hollar'd at a nig.
7/4/2005 11:20:01 PM
Shit a lot of times in my groups the Pally (me or another) is often the last to die.Of course I enjoy being the brunt of the action, so I don't mind being a tank. My Paly is more of a damage dealer though since I use 2h Swords & Axes (BTW Paly's have Sword Spec) and less of just a tank target. But I do quite a bit of soloing. My current guild is shit and I'm trying to get into another that actually plays together.
7/4/2005 11:35:13 PM
Its pretty clear that Frosh is referencing AD&D, and not WoW.[Edited on July 4, 2005 at 11:51 PM. Reason : ]

Actually it's pretty clear he's referring to 3rd Edition D&D (or 3.5), not AD&Dbut yeahand, to date, tabletop pwnz the hell out of any computer or console RPG

Pallies are good for groups, but fighters have better Ginsu action.
7/5/2005 10:53:43 AM
A paladin character (Ed 3.0 and above) presumably will use some of his best stats in CHA and/or WIS to take advantage of smite, turning, spell ability etc. A fighter can presumably load STR, CON, and DEX. In the good old days, that single hard-rolled 17 had to go to CHA to have a paladin. Unless you're in one of those "no stat below 16 is tolerated" games or very high level, the stat allocation might have a significant game effect (mechanics and RP). I suspect that the bottom line is the role-play persona. The paladin, for example, might be more invovled with supernatural plot threads whereas a LG fighter character might well be more concerned with or inclined to be involved in natural (e.g. political) ones. Obviously, D&D blurs these distinctions to some extent, but, for example, the LG fighter might view the assault of shauagin (sp?) on a fishing village as important as the manisfestation of a succubus in another; the paladin might well view the latter as far more pressing.Nerd? I have my tri-Lam brothers to protect me.

typical flamewar where one guy tries to win by acting like he's above everyone else since he's a really cool guy in a real life--a really cool guy who is still having a flamewar on an internet message board

this isnt a flamewar. its fun. Really fun. The fact that you are getting riled up about it makes it even better. And yeah, I played WoW for a while, however I never got that far and that was only for a month. I do however have friends that are sucked up into the MMORPG social void. Its sad.I don't think I'm better than you, I'm just tired of constantly seeing you pipe-up about how the game is god. It's really a social vacuum. Hopefully you wont end up the same way.
