A working user button and a bunch of other useful features have been integrated into Firefox using the Greasemonkey extension in this Tech Talk thread.

It only works in FireFox.

a title with the words "[ user ]" or "thumbnail" would probably have attracted more attention, as anybody who actually knows what Greasemonkey is is probably already in Tech Talk.

^^ that's a hell of an idea. It could be done in GM. The key will be to stop people from abusing it.....
One way would be to use "STICKY:" in the front of every thread that should stay at the top, but that could become really abused.......
