6/27/2005 11:13:02 AM
what kind of serviceimport auto werksvillage motor works
6/27/2005 11:32:04 AM
just scheduled maintenance, oil changes, etc.while it's under warranty, i'd rather have it done somewhere to document it if it ever comes into question when trying to invoke warranty work.
6/27/2005 12:18:19 PM
you can keep your receipts for the purchase of oil/filter. that should be enough to keep your warranty in tact.or i would recommend any of those shops i mentioned earlier. ive had work done by chris dale (import auto werks) and he does a good job. i had an allen bolt strip out while trying to change a motor mount. he fixed it and charged a reasonable price.ive heard lots of good things about greg ashe (village motor works) also.[Edited on June 27, 2005 at 1:12 PM. Just be extra careful with what oil the place uses you take it to. The most recent TDI's use a differenet spec oil than other VW's and even earlier TDI's. Failing to use it could at the minimum cause issues with future warranty claims.
6/27/2005 1:16:08 PM
^ true that, and my '05 tdi definitely falls into that category.
6/27/2005 1:17:11 PM
^^ another reason i would take it to someone who specializes in VWs/german cars[Edited on June 27, 2005 at 1:17 PM. Reason : added ^]

if the car is under warranty is it ok to do oil changes yourself instead of taking it to a dealer? i would much rather do it myself using quality synthetic oil, but wouldnt want to mess up the warranty on the other hand. VW in particular, anyone has any advice on this?im due for a 15k oil change[Edited on June 28, 2005 at 7:23 PM. Reason : f]
6/28/2005 7:16:27 PM
It is under warranty. They won't cover it though, if something goes wrong related to the said oil change.
6/28/2005 7:37:06 PM
i know, but it is one of those things....how many things can they relate to oil? turbo goes out tomorrow, and next thing i know they can blame it on oil. i guess the best thing is just take it in while warranty is effective and have a piece of mind.
6/28/2005 7:49:47 PM
no, change it yourself. save reciepts, etc
6/28/2005 8:05:30 PM
I change mine myself. It is kind of hard to screw up.
6/28/2005 9:39:46 PM
just keep the receipt or something.i dont keep receipts, but i have a log book where everything ive done to the car from the short shifter to every oil change is logged with a description, date, and mileage
6/28/2005 11:24:13 PM
use oem filters and VW approved oil VW5.02 or some mess like that. and keep receipts. i asked the service manager at both Leith and SS and they both said thatd be fine warrantywise.

maximadvr, did you have to get a new front rebar to fit that bumper? the r32 rebars are thinner than the regular golfs. its also 15lb weight savings on the nose if you did, holler
6/30/2005 6:23:33 PM
All that is new on the front is the bumper cover and grille inserts from the accident.

7/1/2005 9:56:52 AM
^^^^^ you must have missed my 4 wheel drifts around the fast sweeper last autox yes its fat and nose heavy, but a big RSB, a good alignment (max front neg camber, min rear neg camber), and some rear wheel power can do wonders. every bit of weight reduction helps, and 15lbs in the very very front is decent.
7/1/2005 10:53:36 AM
uhm.. camber isnt adjustable on the front of the mk4 chassis. and with the 2wd version there is NO adjustment in the rear (without shims). not sure about the IRS, thowell.. in the front, you could shift the subframe... or loosen the ball joints and try to slide them as far out as possible.. but they really dont move that much (maybe 1/2 degree of adjustment)
7/1/2005 10:59:54 AM
TT/R32 control arms have slotted ball joint holes. so yeh, i pulled em all the way out and gained a full degree negative. from -0.5 stock to -1.5. the rear control arms have slightly slotted arms and i gained half a degree there, from -1.5 stock to -1.0. it actually made a bigger difference to me than going to r compounds. everything is exactly the same as the previous autox except this alignment. although maybe it was hotter and the tires stuck better, but i dunno. the car seemed to rotate really well and seemed a lot less understeery
