Okay so I wanted to give a heads up to TWW. Be on the watch for a new website that is going to be in what I feel is direct competition with TWW. It is not in response to TWW but rather needed by students. It is also a project that admires TWW but is not trying to copy it. I would say that both sites are going to be able to offer different things, but are trying to accomplish some of the same core goals. This site is one that has potential to "BLOW TWW out of the water" -> I would like to comment on that statement before I move on. It has more financial resources than TWW, it has more direct resources available to it, and it has the ability to make students go to it (such as at orientation, in E115 type classes and etc...). TWW is awesome. It has some very dedicated people hacking on it, what seems like all the time. Though from looking at the photo gallery there is time for fun also. TWW does not have the direct resources such as TRACS, wolfware, the bookstore, all of your school info, and etc... But it is able to improvise and do a great job. I think in know way will this new site "BLOW TWW out of the water" any time soon, b/c of the dedication of many people from marketing to hacking to users that are dedicated. I worked a bit with the portal project in the fall two years ago. I then co-oped and could not make meetings, then I had class during the meeting times, now I am co-oping again and haven't been able to be involved directly. There are many differences between the two projects and they can both be debated, I thought I would let you know about this site since it knows about your site...Well there is your heads up...http://my.ncsu.edu

Please see that the Yahoo! search box on the myDelta site gets changed to a Google one.I actually do want more things out of the Wolf Web. For instance, an image transloader and THE ABILITY TO LOAD A SINGLE FUCKING PAGE OFF THIS SERVER IN NETSCAPE ON THE SUN STATIONS IN THE LABS WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT TEN YEARS FOR IT.

I sent you mail with some info CrazyJ...

IF you want to change the search option, you will have to login and click the "edit" button on that module, you will then be able to choose between google or yahoo. If you would like anymore info or have some suggestions please email me at mailto:paul_brinich@ncsu.edu .

1/16/2002 4:29:08 PM
I keep getting error messages.
1/16/2002 4:49:28 PM
yeah, i see on contact.cfm, right? Make sure that you enter all the required information. We are in the process of making some semi-major changes to the framework and in the next day or so, you will no longer have to enetr all that contact info.
1/16/2002 4:54:21 PM
No...on editing the content I want on my front page. Why the fuck would a university-run site need ME to put in my fucking contact information, anyway?
1/16/2002 4:55:52 PM
thats why we got rid of it (the contact info)...the content changing page will be much nicer and newer as soon as the DNS chnage takes place

At least that site isn't overrun with pointless graphics, containing only red text in a font that all browsers already support, like the rest of the ncsu.edu domain. Still though, that site is pretty shitty looking to be something that someone got paid to make. oh, and the last thing i want to see on my homepage is my shitty gpa laughing in my face in bold type.
1/16/2002 6:34:28 PM
i'll try to make sure i don't give that thing any traffic while i still attend ncsu.WW, come on and raise up!Take your shirt off, twist it round your handSpin it like a helicopter
1/16/2002 6:41:39 PM
bwhahaI think whoever wrote that this will "BLOW TWW out of the water" should have, in fact, made sure that other people would have been able to read it
1/17/2002 10:52:10 AM
just to clarify I never said "will", but "has potential to" becuase of the factors listed...
1/17/2002 12:06:56 PM
according to netcraft, "The site my.ncsu.edu is running Microsoft-IIS/5.0 on Windows 2000"I didn't think NCSU liked using MS Products, even for servers
1/17/2002 1:50:50 PM
NCSU has a few developers using Cold Fusion, but nothing like the numbers at UNC. From what I've read, you do not want to try running CF on Unix, so I think sticking to Windoze in this case is a good decision.LeGo, what services will be offered by Delta once it gets off the ground?
1/17/2002 10:55:08 PM
There aren't any new features that I am aware of. The idea of this project is a 'portal'. This means it will pull a bunch of resources already available together. I.E. you will be able to log into this to register, check your email, and check your student status, etc... It will just join things together which could be cool...

doesnt sound anything like the WW to me, but could def. has some good qualities.
