http://rdu25-31-080.nc.rr.com/message.aspxit is read-only. the posting links don't work yet. this is just an example. notice that peoples usernames are now links. the timestamp of "last post" is also a link that will take you to the last post. the replies column is a link that will show you everyone that has replied.what do you guys think? is it too small? do you like the look? any suggestions?** tell me if you think it sucks! but keep in mind any new design will take some getting used to.BTW, this is not the real TWW. this is an older copy.
11/12/2001 3:21:12 PM
i think it may be a bit to small, but i like the new stuff added.you know that we can see every section
11/12/2001 3:25:17 PM
I THINK IT LOOKS AWFULLY CLUTTERED....
11/12/2001 3:28:26 PM
i think the old and new thing better then the folders
11/12/2001 3:29:56 PM
i like the sizeits got so much more onthe page...and yeah, you can see every section without being logged in
11/12/2001 3:38:25 PM
I really like that a lot! I dont think its small at all.<K-Pro>
11/12/2001 3:39:20 PM
i just made the fonts one pixel bigger
11/12/2001 3:42:29 PM
THAT LOOKS MUCH BETTER
11/12/2001 3:50:54 PM
different is good, i like it. you can see more stuff without having to go to the next page
11/12/2001 3:52:01 PM
I like the little Message Boards Pulldown thingy, its easier to jump to different boards that way.<K-Pro>
11/12/2001 4:30:48 PM
It's too squished.Rename the Chit Chat section to the Trash Bin again.
11/12/2001 4:54:31 PM
i like it.
11/12/2001 4:56:24 PM
damn...a playababy sighting...hell yeah...great job on the site jake, i like it. i dont think its too small. i like the folders but how long does the flash last to let users know there is a new post
11/12/2001 5:04:25 PM
You have reduced usability by removing the "go to bottom" links. Also, the drop-down menus, flashy as they may be, do not speed the user's navigation at all. It still requires the same amount of clicks, but even worse, it requires the user to aim the mouse pointer more carefully.I'm not so sure that the folder images are a good idea because a thread isn't really a folder. It doesn't make intuitive sense. In the photo gallery, the folders make sense, but not as a thread. I can see the use of putting folders in the section page, because that would be a folder of threads, maybe. Folder of posts doesn't really make sense though because a thread is more like a single document.I really like making the usernames into links. THat is an awesome idea.Linking to the last post is also a totally awesome idea.>>>>>>>>>>>> Please put the "go to bottom" links back in there. <<<<<<<<<<<
11/12/2001 5:36:04 PM
I still think it looks small ...if you look at it for a minute its get blurry
11/12/2001 5:36:46 PM
I love it. Much better. Not that the current version isn't very good, but that's excellent.
11/12/2001 5:52:38 PM
I dont like the borders. From the outside there is red white red. The old red white is better.I like the new links on the names and the replies. The reply link needs to be bigger, and all the fonts too.It would be better if the last post section did not give the date if that date is today. Also needs a back to topic list at the bottom, because thats where you are a lot of the time when you want to go back.[Edited on November 12, 2001 at 6:10 PM. i cant see a differance besides the folders and not old/new, and that its very very smalland the lack of search[Edited on November 12, 2001 at 6:09 PM. Reason : search]
11/12/2001 6:09:17 PM
i like the new info, but it's a bit small and i defenitely don't like the folders icons, i prefer the old and new signs
11/12/2001 6:12:27 PM
Have you used the dropdown navigation menus? It's one click to any forum. While you are viewing a topic there are two ways to navigate with dropdown menu: You change the forum in the dropdown and it is automatically submitted via the onchange event. But we realized that some people would want to go back the same forum, but out of the topic; so the Go button was added to submit it without changing the dropdown menu. Basically if you hit go, it leaves the topic and goes back to the forum. If you choose a different forum from the pulldown it immediately goes to it. One click to navigate to any forum.About the go-to-bottom link: The link on the last post in the topic summary (on '11/9/2001 3:29:07 PM') is linked to an anchor on the last post, replacing the go-to-bottom button. Again, one click to go where you want!
11/12/2001 6:14:58 PM
i like it
11/12/2001 6:18:53 PM
I like it, but put lines between the columns.
11/12/2001 6:50:27 PM
how about personalized signatures for premium users?so i won't have to keep typing this:the_drew
11/12/2001 6:53:49 PM
also, I think the deliberate use of profanity on the ERROR 404 page is kinda tacky...the_drew
11/12/2001 7:02:12 PM
I like it!! Maybe a tad bit bigger but other than that...GREAT JOB!!
11/12/2001 7:22:32 PM
go to bottom/go to top!!!!!!!!!
11/12/2001 10:09:16 PM
we will probably have a more prevelant link going strait from the topic list to the bottom of each topic. this should suffice.
11/12/2001 10:16:37 PM
ok, that might work. I'll have to see it. I just can't stand scrolling.
11/12/2001 11:09:58 PM
there isn't any clear division between columns and posts except for the colors. if you put in the thin white line you have here, i think it would be lots better.<--- thin white line i speak of.
11/12/2001 11:59:43 PM
I do like the whole Message Boards >> Entertainment >> Thread system. I am sad about the lack of "go to bottom"
11/13/2001 12:06:43 AM
i like it just fine the way it is now.
11/13/2001 12:31:32 AM
i think insaneman has a point in that the borders are too complex. The frame is supposed to direct attention to the picture, not to itself.
11/13/2001 1:03:31 AM
does this version have trapezius in it?
11/13/2001 1:15:58 AM
yea def put the white lines back...it helps to make it look more clean and less cluttered....go one more pixel size....see what it looks like
11/13/2001 1:16:56 AM
Its not bad, but it does seem a bit tiny on my computer since I already have the resolution way up, since I have a big monitor. Doesn't matter much to me either way.
11/13/2001 1:18:13 AM
Cept for the smaller fonts though, I think its cool. Like the ease of going to different boards, etc.
11/13/2001 1:20:06 AM
i like it. it's different... i dont care either way
11/13/2001 10:25:50 AM
I like it a lot, especially the info giving you who made the last post.. no longer have to remember post counts in a thread to see if anything's new. i've also always been a fan of the drop down menus. I like that they are at the top now. Awesome job Jake!
11/13/2001 11:48:18 AM
I request the "go to bottom" and "go to top" links
11/13/2001 12:33:49 PM
the old one is better
11/13/2001 4:16:16 PM
the new and old icons are links to the last post on the last page of the thread. I think this should cover the "go to bottom" links.
11/13/2001 4:18:32 PM
I promise I'm still gonna do that stuff for you guys!
11/13/2001 4:57:24 PM
Jake, you think that you could maybe put a link on the bottom of the message to go back to the topic listings for that section?
11/13/2001 5:04:00 PM
maugan, yeah, i'm gonna somehow incorporate that
11/13/2001 6:15:04 PM
still seems cluttered. click on the lounge and look at it... there is not enough white space or grey space for that matter...looks overly busy
11/13/2001 6:22:26 PM
is all that extra info neccessary... too much to read... too confusing.
11/13/2001 10:41:13 PM
I'm not sure many people will actually use the links to user info from the "started by" and "last post" columns. I don't see how that is useful. It adds clutter.
11/13/2001 10:53:05 PM
^^^ good point, because when your mouse pointer is all the way over to the right of the screen, its hard to synchronize it to the topic you're looking at on the left side of the screen. Or maybe I just have too damn big of a monitor.
11/13/2001 11:06:00 PM
maybe get rid of the "started by" column, the "last post" column is very useful though.<K-Pro>
11/13/2001 11:16:37 PM
hmmm.... i think both columns are very useful. i for one usually look to see who started a thread before i click on it. others have voiced that they want to see who last replied. making them links doesn't get in the way.
