I've noticed an increase in several student organizations posting events as threads. Not that this is a bad thing, but I see it becoming a potential problem if everybody jumps on the bandwagon ... you'll have the forums flooded. I'm not sure what's a viable suggestion for this. Could leave it as is, create a new section (not really feasible/userful), or again, not sure.

the main front page should be utilized for most events - as well as the calendar - a thread in the lounge shouldn't cause too much harm - but maybe a forum that basically takes submissions like the front page and only posts "acceptable" event threads

I don't see it as much of a problem. Threads die if they get no replies, removing themselves as clutter.
