I would like to see crazy code updated to add the following feature. I would like to be able to talk about another user in my post. I would like to link my comment to the users home page. I would like to do this by putting braces around there name. IE.[LeGo] was helped by [scud] and [noen] on his last post. The user names would then be linked to their profile page, so that people will be able to see who and what I am talking about. Without this they might be searching for days to get to a users profile page. There is no direct link to a profile page and I believe this would help. Lets say I want to go to Kay_Yow's profile to see what she has been posting about. Well... hmmm how do I do that? I can go to here photo gallery but, can't find her most recent post's, or have the ability to IM her on the fly. So I guess this is two part, add the userid link and have a more efficient way to find another users profile.LeGo

It would basically HAVE to take the form of FroshKiller.
10/22/2001 12:13:44 PM
not a problem. I just think that it would be cool and very easy to implement.
10/22/2001 2:45:57 PM
i think it would be used very rarely
10/22/2001 6:02:00 PM
I'd definitely use that...seems that it would be really easy to implement as well.

lego: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165

InsaneMan I am hoping that was a sarcastic example of how clunky it would be to use now. For example:Me: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, scud: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, nads: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, timmy: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, jay: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, and bob:http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165 are going to the party. I called john: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, speedy: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165, russ: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165 and mary: http://www.thewolfweb.com/user_info.aspx?user=1165 but have not heard from them yet. Do note the clunkiness of this. Also note that they all go to my site becuase I couldn't find everyone elses profile (not to mention they were random and probably ficticous, they would be hard as hell to find). So your solution does not solve my problem. I want it easy [LeGo], but LeGo is much easier than the alternative.Need I mention it looks like ass...

however, if you are premium you could say something like lesamuels and irishsoul went to a BNL concert this past weekend. Granted this too can be a pain in the ass...but for us premies...we can do it if we really want.[Edited on October 23, 2001 at 5:03 PM. Reason : ]

And I'm really not trying to be a pain in the ass...because it is a good idea...I'd use it
10/23/2001 5:04:52 PM
i would use it too...several times, i find myself not replying to the topic, but replying to a reply, as st00pid as that sounds. and most of the time, i used names
10/27/2001 8:33:59 AM
one woudl think it would add to the database loopkup, which is always overhead you try to avoid. also, what if you misspell user name?
10/29/2001 10:53:55 AM
if you mispelled user name you will then not link to anything. I am not sure how tww db's are setup but query for the name, if it exist return the userid number and create a link, if it does not exist fuck it, return nothing, just show the name. The user will be able to edit.I think that this at most would be 10 lines of code run once when the user post the topic. As far as this being a great overhead, it really depends on how it is implemented and how tww db's are set up. I am sure though that the benifit will be great than the cost.I am tired of reading threads and seeing "haha that's funny Karl" and then looking up to see who he is replying to. No Karl user name. So I just get left in the dark and I am sure others do also. With there being greater than 3900 users it is really hard to know everyone and to create post that only refer to a handful of people is not beneficial to the greater cause (that is tww in general). People don't want to join a chat room full of 10 people whom talk to one another that they don't know. Once you can link a profile to a name you then no more about the person, you can see there photos, there previous post, there profile, etc...

I think this is a great idea btt...
10/31/2001 10:49:35 AM
i like the idea, so much that i requested it on the 28th without ever seeing your threadLegothat's what it would end up looking like, hopefullybut Lego would be a nice idea, wonder if it would be feasible
10/31/2001 10:54:37 AM
naw it is an impractible request, not feasable at all. JK.Hey I am not trying to bloat on this. I like tww lots. It is definitely serving its purpose. I just use another board that has this feature and I like it lots and feel that it greatly adds to the board.

livejournal?my only thing about it is how much would that tax the server that jake uses, it can only take so much
10/31/2001 11:16:51 AM
(speaking of which i finally have the discs i need to reformat, but i'm out of town this weekend and still need to backup all my media files, which will take days)
10/31/2001 11:17:37 AM
i am working on this feature, but i am gonna have to go back and relearn all my regular expression stuff!
10/31/2001 12:02:57 PM
really?cool

coming in the new version....http://rdu25-31-080.nc.rr.com/help_crazycode.aspx
11/21/2001 9:17:21 PM
awesome
11/21/2001 9:48:17 PM
yo thanks for implementing this. now if people would use it...
1/16/2002 4:05:18 PM
I use it. I'd like to be able to alias it, though. Like, I want people to be able to say, "I saw Jonathan earlier."
1/16/2002 4:15:15 PM
I like how it's been 15 years and Solinari was wrong as hell. I think about this thread every time I tag a user.[Edited on December 23, 2016 at 2:15 PM. Reason : P.S. Implement the aliasing feature.]
12/23/2016 2:14:48 PM
Oh man I thought there was a crazy code update
